AutoDEPOMODv3
(denoted ADv3) can run with spatially varying velocity grids. Velgrid is used to
(i)
make interpolations from hydrodynamic model grids and (ii)
create
a special INI file that ADv3 can use.
1.
Decide on the area of interest, and set up the bathymetry grid and
cages in ADv3 as usual. Information on the size of the grid used in the
area of interest is required by Velgrid.
(details of setting up ADv3).
2. Take current velocity u
and v predictions from a hydrodynamic model which overlaps the area of
interest - a linear grid is required as well as predictions for every
time step in the model run (usually 360 hours) and surface, mid and
near-bed current.
3. Set up and run the Velgrid
interpolation dialog to create ADv3 compatible velocity
grids. See Diagram B - Use
of Velgrid.
4. Create a Velgrid INI file.
This notifies ADv3 how to use the velocity grids. It can
also notify ADv3 that there are no velocity grids, in which
case,
velocity data should be specified as with AD version 2 - see Diagram C
- Creation of Velgrid INI file
5. Run ADv3.

Velgrid
source code (.zip file containing Borland Delphi 7 code) is provided
with the installation program. Users may wish to modify the code to
improve
the interpolation algorithm or adapt Velgrid to accept
different file
formats from the users hydrodynamic model.
